Introduction to plant tissue culture and propagation Lecture Note

PLANT TISSUE CULTURE Plant tissue culture, also referred to as cell, in vitro, axenic, or sterile culture, is an important tool in both basic and applied studies, as well as in commercial application. Plant tissue culture is the aseptic culture of cells, tissues, organs and their components under defined physical and chemical conditions in vitro. The theoretical basis for plant tissue culture was proposed by Gottlieb Haberlandt in 1902 Principle : Totipotency , - The ability to regenerate the entire organism from a single somatic cell, i.e., trigger the use of the genetic information present to direct the entire regenerative and developmental programs needed to create the whole organism from a single cell , Cyto differentiation: dedifferentiation and re-differentiation are the principles. Dedifferentiation is the capacity of mature cells to return to meristematic condition and development of a new growing point Competency describes the endogenous potential of a given cell o
